Course Description

OICEW - Electrical Machinery – Course # 274

This is a 160 Hour classroom and simulator course and will cover marine engineering topics at the operational level per STCW Section A-III/1 and Table A-III/1. Any applicant who successfully completes the OICEW- Electrical Machinery course will satisfy the requirements of:

• The Electrical Machinery and Basic Electronics training requirements of 46 CFR 11.329(a)(4)(x) towards an OICEW endorsement; AND

• The equivalents to the following specific TASKS from the OICEW NVIC 17-14: 6.1.A; 6.1.B; 6.1.D; 6.1.E; 6.2.A; 7.1.A; 7.2.A; 7.2.B; 7.3.A; and 7.4.A;

Applicants are not required to present the completed record of assessment sheets when applying for the STCW endorsement.



Prerequisites

Students must attest to having 180 days of service

in a rating at least equal to that of a wiper or coal passer

including: Electrician/Refrigerating Engineer; Oiler; Fireman/Watertender;

Junior Engineer; Pumpman/Machinist; QMED – any rating.

Required Materials

You will be required to show ID (a passport is preferred). You should bring Paper, pencil and highlighters for notes. Candidates taking this course are required to bring the following clothing for the practical workshop assessments: A shirt with long sleeves, long pants and closed-toed shoes or equivalent safety shoes. work gloves, eye protection, and ear protection. Candidates are welcome to bring their own equipment if desired; provided that it meets the standard of safety required.
